SPAR volunteer2

Animal care 

♦ Be a Pet-Foster ♦ Assist the Foster Coordinator in managing animals placed with fosters ♦ Transport animals to & from vet appointments ♦ Assist with “Spay Shawnee” events & trips to spay/neuter clinics ♦ Help with community outreach activities such as delivering pet food, pet medical items, pet supplies, etc. to citizens needing temporary assistance ♦ Conduct animal temperament testing ♦ Assist at our kennels: Cleaning, giving pets baths, cutting pet’s nails, administering medication, exercising & walking dogs, playing with and training pets ♦ Shopping for and delivering pet supplies.


animal intake

♦ Assist Intake Director as needed ♦ Provide follow-up about lost, found & stray pets ♦ Conduct animal temperament testing ♦ Coordinate intake foster placement ♦ Record keeping ♦ Organize photos/videos of the animals during intake


adoption events

♦ Drive SPAR Transports to out-of-town & out-of-state adoption partner locations ♦ Coordinate/assist with adoption events ♦ Transport animals & supplies to & from adoption events ♦ Conduct home visits for adoption applicants ♦ Take updated photos and videos of the rescues


fundraising

♦ Assist with or organize annual fundraising events such as the spring Salad Luncheon & the fall Beer & Bratwurst Dinner / Gift Basket Auction, etc. ♦ Organize menus & prepare food, drinks, etc. ♦ Solicit merchandise/gift donations from businesses for auctions, raffles, etc.  ♦ Create gift baskets, raffle items, etc. to be sold to raise funds ♦ Decorate & set-up for events ♦ Spearhead Children’s & adult groups to hold bake sales, car washes, lemonade stands, or any number of ideas for raising much-needed funds ♦ Spearhead fundraising idea groups ♦ Sell tickets for attendance, raffle tickets, etc. ♦ Pick-up & deliver donation jars at local businesses, pick up donation money & deposit, etc. ♦ Pick up items from storage facilities, set up/take down tables, chairs, etc. ♦ Load/unload vehicles for events like dinners, garage sales, etc.


Clerical

♦ Apply for financial grants on behalf of Saving Pets at Risk ♦ Write, address, stamp, and send direct communication mailings ♦ Manage records/files ♦ Create, hang, deliver flyers, etc. ♦ Assist with writing the Best Practices Guide to use for training ♦ Provide expertise with digital/cloud form management ♦ Shop for & deliver supplies, make copies, go to post office ♦ Work on SPAR newsletters & mailings ♦ Place & return phone calls ♦ Assist with website & social media management ♦ Help with community animal welfare education ♦ Assist with educational events, prepare & give presentations for church groups, social clubs, service clubs, Lyons Club, Rotary Club, etc.

♦ SPAR Van management. (ie: Take in for maintenance needs, clean interior & exterior, fill fuel tank, clean crates, etc.) ♦ General “handyman” repairs ♦ Recruit, interview, train & mentor volunteers; paperwork upkeep ♦ Recruit, interview, train & mentor pet fosters; paperwork up keep
